Copyable Privacy Policy

Copyable does not collect, sell or share any personal data. It has no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no account.

What is stored on your device

Copyable keeps a small amount of data in Chrome's extension storage on your device. It is deleted when you uninstall the extension.

• Unlocked sites: the websites where you turned on "Unlock this site".
• OCR usage count: how many of the free text captures you have used. If Chrome sync is on, Chrome also syncs this one number between browsers signed into your Google account, so they share one free allowance. Nothing else is synced.
• License key: only if you buy Pro, your Polar.sh license key and the result of its last check.

Screen captures and text

When you use "Copy text from screen", Copyable takes a screenshot of the visible part of the current tab and lets you choose an area. Text recognition runs inside the extension on your own device, using the bundled Tesseract engine. The screenshot and the recognized text are never saved or sent anywhere. The text is placed on your clipboard and nowhere else.

Network requests

Copyable makes no network requests during normal use. Unlocking sites and OCR both work offline.

The only exception is Pro licensing, and only if you choose to use it:

• "Buy Pro" opens the Polar.sh checkout page in a new tab. Payment is handled by Polar.sh as merchant of record, under Polar's own privacy policy.
• When you enter a license key, Copyable sends that key to api.polar.sh to confirm it is valid. While Pro is active, it checks the key again at most once a day, only when you capture text after the free allowance is used. Nothing else is sent: no browsing history, no page content and no screenshots. If the key cannot be checked for 14 days, for example because you are offline, Pro captures pause until Copyable can reach Polar again.

Permissions

• storage: remembers unlocked sites, the usage count and your license key, and syncs the usage count if Chrome sync is on.
• activeTab: lets Copyable act on the current tab only when you click the toolbar button or press the shortcut.
• scripting: runs the unlock and selection scripts on pages you choose.
• offscreen: runs text recognition and writes to the clipboard in a hidden extension page.
• clipboardWrite: puts the recognized text on your clipboard.
• Site access (optional): requested one site at a time, only when you turn on "Unlock this site". You can remove it at any time from the popup or from Chrome's extension settings.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published with the extension update and the date above will change.
